As for “Bak Kut Teh” is what chinese people called, direct convert meaning of “Bak Kut Teh” is “Pork Rib Tea/Herb Soup”. Bak Kut Teh is one of the famous chinese food among the Chinese people but not just chinese people, even some foreign people also like to eat as well. It can be your dinner, your lunch or even your breakfast. In Malaysia, there is number of places that you can have Bak Kut Teh, as for me, i would recommend this place for first introduction of Bak Kut Teh, that is in Medan Imbi of Kuala Lumpur. While having the Bak Kut Teh, some would recommend serving with a dish of vegetables or Yau Cha Kuai or serve with vinegar soya sauce pig trotters. Yummy.

If you are not from Malaysia and would like to taste such a tasty food, you can make it at your own home. Here is one of the recipe that make Bak Kut Teh.

Ingredient :

  • 1 lbs of pork spare ribs or some boneless pork meat (as some may not like to eat with bone. But with the bone together it will make the soup even more tastier.)
  • 2~3 garlics, unpeeled, slightly crushed
  • 2~3 inch ginseng root, peeled, crushed before putting to the soup
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 star anise
  • 1 tablespoon of white peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon of black peppercorns ( up to you to put 1 or 2 tablespoon, depends on your taste)
  • 2 spoon of Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
  • 5 dried mushroom
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of Salt and 1 tablespoon of Pepper.

*Put all the ingredient in together to cook.

The above ingredient is best serve in claypot and the Bak Kut Teh need to boiled for at least 30mins to 1hours to get the best taste.

Bak Kut Teh is consider as a healthy food but also it can be consider as a healthy food.
